About Boring Edge

We believe the best trading strategies are boring ones.

While everyone chases the next hot signal or complex algorithm, we focus on simple, time-tested strategies backed by historical data. No hype. No guru worship. Just backtests and statistics.

Boring Edge was built for crypto traders who are tired of influencer-driven trading advice. We run rigorous backtests on Bitcoin using real exchange data — every strategy tested with actual Binance BTC/USDT daily candles, including realistic transaction fees.

Who We Are

We are a small team of data obsessives who find beauty in spreadsheets and poetry in price charts.

We do not trade for a living. We do not sell courses. We do not have a Discord full of rocket emojis.

What we do is simple: we ask does this actually work? — and then we run the numbers. Every strategy on this site has been tested against real market data, with real fees, across real history. No cherry-picking. No survivorship bias. No stories.

We started Boring Edge because we were tired of the noise. Every crypto influencer has a secret strategy that works perfectly — in hindsight. We wanted something different: a place where strategies are judged by their track record, not by the confidence of the person selling them.

Our edge is not a proprietary algorithm. It is patience. It is discipline. It is the willingness to accept that most strategies do not work — and the honesty to show you when they do not.

That is the boring part. That is the edge.

What We Do

  • Backtest simple strategies — Moving averages, Donchian channels, RSI, MACD, Supertrend, and more. We’ve tested 15+ strategies on Bitcoin so far
  • Share the results honestly — Every backtest includes CAGR, max drawdown, win rate, complete trade logs, and equity curves. When a strategy underperforms, we show that too
  • Explore strategy stacking — We test combinations of strategies to see if combined signals can improve risk-adjusted returns
  • Provide educational content — Articles explaining backtesting methodology, common pitfalls, and how to interpret strategy metrics

Our Methodology

Every backtest on Boring Edge follows the same standards:

  • Real data: BTC/USDT daily candles from Binance API (2017–present)
  • Realistic fees: 0.05% per side (0.1% round trip) — simulating maker orders with slippage
  • No lookahead bias: All signals are based on data available at the time of the trade
  • Full transparency: Complete trade logs with every entry/exit date, price, and return
  • Multiple languages: All content available in English, Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese

What We’ve Found So Far

After testing 15+ strategies on Bitcoin:

  • Trend following works. Strategies like Donchian Breakout (48.2% CAGR), RSI Trend Following (53.2%), and ADX (46.8%) consistently beat Buy & Hold while reducing drawdowns
  • Mean reversion has struggled. In our tests so far, RSI oversold/overbought, Williams %R, and Bollinger Band strategies have underperformed on Bitcoin. Whether this holds going forward is an open question we continue to explore
  • Simplicity wins. The best-performing strategies use 1-2 indicators with default parameters. More complexity doesn’t mean more profit
